Your words matter

Reviewing your writing can often be like trying to create order from chaos, like piecing the parts of a complex puzzle. Mistakes can be anywhere and it's easy to miss your own mistakes when focusing on your content.

Working on your content increases its value

Proofreading helps to improve the quality of your writing and how you represent your business. It shows you care about what you say and the people who view your content.

Hiring someone to proofread for you can save valuable time and energy.

As the last stage of writing and editing, proofreading involves careful, repeated checking to catch errors and keep things consistent. It takes longer than regular reading as accuracy takes time and attention.

Proofreading looks for surface errors like spelling, grammar and punctuation. Reviewing your draft focuses on anything minor overlooked or introduced when editing so your content is free from mistakes before publishing or sharing.

Edited excerpt from Magritte: the silence of the world by David Sylvester

Many of these acknowledgements, sad to say, are to friends who are no longer alive.

Several colleagues and other friends have kindly read one draft or another of the manuscript or chapters from it and suggested very necessary and welcome improvements.

I am also most grateful for the revisions to the text proposed by my editor, and my editorial assistant, Sarah Bertolla.

 Kind words

Sarah has an amazing way with words

"She has helped me immensely to understand the importance

of using correct language to create good content

and its impact on customers."

Sarah helps pull out what I can feel but can't quite put into words.

She always understands what I need and works with me to create

what I want to get across to my audience, what I really want to say.

I now see that whenever I feel blocked in my writing

I need to hire a professional like Sarah.

With seemingly endless ways to tweak a piece of writing, working with words is a rewarding challenge. I like the feel of words, the interplay and all the elements that shift and grow. Offline, there's a spaciousness when I’m out walking and inspiration in the non-fiction stories of women on solo outdoor journeys.

The subtle energy of my restorative yoga class cools the overwhelm of my loud and busy day. Every move, every fold, every breath draws me further away.

Listening to the call I hear every sound, feel the pull within each reach. Trusting the sensations I lean into the discomfort, surrendering to the mat.Working more deeply, a softening begins, relaxing my overactive mind.

Feeling into the limits of my boundaries I respect my showing up to the mat. Thankful for the props supporting my practice, I become one with the bolster, accepting of the block.

Moments of stillness keep me holding where I'm locked, shifting where I'm not. Less movement above, more quiet below. I welcome the awareness the insights bring, like how good it feels to begin to feel free.

Soon, the welcome relief of guided meditation. Letting go in the moment to merge with the calm and the silence.

Discovering the Gibberagong Track             AL P2 23 0.01 1.6

On a Sydney winter’s morning, we took a great walk along the old Grosvenor Track down to Gibberagong waterholes. Setting out from the ridgeline we soon descended the gully noting how the colours changed. Subtle shades of boronia and crowea and later, the soft grey of the velvety flannel flower revealing early signs of spring.

Following Cockle Creek we met with noisy wren and spinebill and evidence of lyrebirds. Crossing easily we found splendid angophoras far above the ground close to the waterholes. In the clearing there grew unusual fungi, mysterious mauves and star shaped with native fuschia everywhere and everything cool and green under rainfall.

We came to welcome the rain between sun shots that made walking refreshing. Reaching the waterholes we stopped awhile reflecting on the once sandy beach now partly covered in weeds. Despite heavy weather, the track was clear though we were soon to realise the seriously high levels to which the creek could rise.

As we followed the water winding on, we were surprised by elk horns then native orchids nestling in trees. Looking up we met with great sandstone overhangs, rainwater streaming through clefts where rainforest plants spilled wildly over ledges.

Nearing the end of our native nature walk, Bobbin Head appeared before us. Emerging with the weather, we reached shelter just as rain fell heavily.
